Hi all,
Just got back from seeing Lake Placid - not bad and rather humourous in
places.
Was rather surprised, near the beginning, to see Adam Arkin! I looked at
the end credits to see how far down he was and didn't see his name at all.
Anyway, it was a nice surprise and I thought other AA fans would like to
know about it (if you didn't already). :)

Well they finally put together a good episode. There
was a glimmer of the "old Jeffrey". Geiger was
tender and loving. I loved the scenes with Alisha.
Good show!!

I have a question.
Dr. Gina Simon originally worked at County. Isn't that the hospital where ER
takes place?
Also, can anyone please tell me when the first episode of CH aired in 1995?
Thanks.

I too enojoyed this episode (albeit only for the fact that Mandy was in
it!). Aside from Geiger, who did indeed have some great scenes with
Alicia, esp. "shut up, gradma", the show was more than a little strange,
what with the Sri Lankan doctor running away and all. But do donor
receivers' families and donor's families always have to run into each
other outside the OR? I saw that one coming from miles away...
Lauren
Oh, and I love the continuity--last week Aaron darn near died from a
killer influenza, and at his bedside was Gina Simon, who seemed in love
with him. This week, they meet up once, and nothing is mentioned about
the previous week's plot. Ok, I know I'm being picky here, but I *hate*
being led on! At least with Infante (and Antonovich) I was led on in a
good way--this time it's just annoying. ;)

The first episode aired in September 1994 (I believe), not sure what date.
But it was a Thursday at 10pm.

Hi Everyone:
Tonight's episode of CH was the first episode that I truly enjoyed since MP
has been back on the show. We really did see a kinder, more gentle side of
Jeffrey. I love his sceens with Alicia and I really like Alicia. There was
only one comment that he made tonight that I didn't like and that was in the
operating room when he said if the patient died, he could still catch his
daughter's Thanksgiving play (something like that).
It was good to see that he was actually in most of the episode and it focused
around Jeffrey surgical abilities. It was almost like watching the old
(original) CH.
Tell me if I am correct, but didn't it like as if Aaron was wearing the MP
tie from the Christoper Reeve collection?
Hope you all enjoyed the show as much as I did. I hope all of the remaining
episodes with MP will utilize his talents and not just have him show up for
one or two lines.
I watched the rerun episode of Jeffrey firing everyone on Lifetime and again
realized just how obnoxious he was. I also liked it when Alicia told him he
was obnoxious.
Right now I am watching ER and Roxanne Hart is on the show.
What did all of you think of tonight's episode?
Regards,
Helaine

Yes! Wasn't it nice to see Geiger acting like a competent and caring human
being! And oh my gosh, when he looks up at Aaron and smiles from under his
surgical mask...

I assume you are referring to Alicia being Birch's daughter? Wasn't he
Episcopalean rather than Catholic? Whatever he was, good point. It appears
that since Geiger is raising her, she will be raised at least partly in the
Jewish faith.

According to the publisher, Mandy's recording of "The Diaries of Adam
and Eve" is listed in the first round of voting for a Grammy Award in
the Spoken Word category. Hooray!!!
"There are 118 audios of every ilk listed,
from which the five nominees will be selected, so we have no idea what
our chances are. Ballots must be returned by Dec. 3, I think, and we
don't happen to be voting members of the National Academy of Recording
Arts and Science (NARAS).
So if you know any voters to whom you can recommend Mark Twain's
Diaries, we'll appreciate it!"
So if you know singers, production people....maybe there's a web page
for the group....get the word out to vote for "Diaries." It really
deserves it (says me, an unbiased observer :> but big companies will
have lots of money to influence voters.....Carol

Here are the people that can vote for the Grammys if they're members of NARAS:
Voting members are creative or technical professionals with credits
on six commercially released
tracks (or their equivalent). These may include vocalists,
leaders, producers, songwriters, composers,
engineers, instrumentalists, arrangers, art directors, album
notes writers, narrators, and music video
artists and technicians.

my friend called right as CH was going on. I taped it, tried to play it back,

What could be better than Mandy recording some Johnny Mercer Tunes?
I have the CD from Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, and the songs, (a
lot of love songs), are great!
Songs like Skylark, Too Marvelous For Words, Autumn Leaves, This Time the

Hi
Well, i loved that episode. It made me laugh, and it made me want to know
the ending. Geiger was great, as he should always be. Now, that was the
old Geiger, the real Geiger. I wish he had sing with his daughter when she
was practicing in the beginning, but i guess that,s too much demanding from
the writers, i guess they don't like his voice.
There was a little thing that bothered me: when Aaron told Jeffrey he was a
nutsy (is this the way you write it?), he spoke about the baboon-heart
operation from the first season (which is from the first eight episodes i've
never seen). He said it was FIVE years ago. In the beginning of season
six, on the first episode called "Team Play", there was this lip operation
on a young boy and Geiger was reffering to a previous operation from the
first season and he was talking about SEVEN years. What is the problem with
the writers? Can't they remember what they have written two months ago?
And if the first season events occured five years from now, wouldn't Alicia
be 4 1/2, instead of 8 or 9 years old (i don't know exactly)?
Just my thoughts
Poutchy>who wishes that someone on the show will be singing in the OR again,
before the show ends. I miss that part of the show a lot....

Wendy's right- this struck me right away. When you agree to be a Godparent
to a Catholic child you have to, are required to, MUST agree to raise that
child in the Catholic faith should the parents neglect to or become unable
to. Even Dr Geiger would have had to agree to this. And I do not see
Jeffrey reneging on a promise he made to Alan-- esp after hearing Alan's
little speech at Alicia's baptism.
As for Jeffrey not knowing how to raise her any other way-- that's why you
read books, and consult people, and send kids to Catholic school- so people
can help you do what you don't know how to do. (One Godparent may be
non-Catholic, but one must always be Catholic, just to avoid this sort of
thing.)
Could this be (Gasp!) Poor Continuity on the part of our show?????

I did like the episode better, but there were a number of continuity issues
(this is really becoming like a soap opera, in that they change stuff around
all the time and hope that we won't notice). You know, there is SOFTWARE to
do this kind of continuity checking. Anyway, a number of episodes ago,
Alisha was going into Kinder. NOW she's 7 yrs old? Was she a late bloomer,
or what? And, then Aaron talks about Jeffrey's operation with the baboon
heart being 5 yrs ago. Well, five years ago, Alisha wasn't even a glimmer in
her Mom's eye, so how could she be 7. AND, 7 yrs ago CH wasn't even on the
air...so clearly Alisha was born twice...maybe even three times.
Also, I know they are trying to soften Geiger, but the abrupt switch between
Aaron and Jeffrey (where Aaron is now the one concerned about the funding for
the hospital's research and the press yada yada and where Jeffrey is back to
thinking about the patient's well being -- well, it's just a little too
schzoid for me)
I, too, saw the mother and wife meeting in the hallway as pretty predictable
AND it's been done before on this show.
To clarify some confusion on the Sri Lankan Dr taking off (I thought he ran
away and that's what everyone said in the O.R., but I think the point was
that they THOUGHT he ran away, but actually he went to find a translator on
his end that could take over for the konked out guy in the O.R. in Chicago).
That was MY interpretation, anyway, though I don't think it was clear.
You know which episode was the best in this respect (the everything that
could go wrong, DID go wrong 'Murphy's Law' episode with the guy
whose...ahem...member had been stiff for 24 hrs. He ended up slipping and
falling getting out of bed and hitting his head. Went into a coma, I think.
It was great...very funny and well written).
But, I digress.
On the bright side of last night's show, at least the show didn't seem to
drag, and Geiger was there.

Well, yeah, that's obviously what's happening. Which doesn't change the fact
that it's not supposed to be happening, because Jeffrey promised Alan that it
wouldn't happen, or he would never have been allowed to be Godfather in the
first place. (It's not just a symbolic position, it has real
responsibilities attached to it.)
You remember, back at the Baptism... 4 1/2 years ago, when this 7-year old
was an infant.

Given some of the topics we've been discussing, I thought y'all might get a
kick out of this -- a friend sent it to me ;-) -- and no disrepect intended
to anyone!
C O M P U T E R B R I S
===================================
The Rabbi came over yesterday and we had a bris for my
computer, taking a little piece off the tail of the mouse.
If you or a friend are considering a kosher computer, you
should know that there were some other changes, such as:
I had to have two hard drives, one for fleyshedik business
software and one for milchedik games.
Instead of getting a General Protection Fault error, my PC
now gets Ferklempt.
The Chanukah screen savers include Flying Dreidels. My PC
also shuts down automatically at sundown on Friday evenings.
After my computer dies, I have to dispose of it within 24
hours.
My Start button has been replaced with a "Let's go, I'm not
getting any younger" button.
When disconnecting external devices from the back of my PC,
I am instructed to "Remove the cable from the PC's tuchus".
The multimedia player has been renamed to "Nu, so play my
music already!".
Internet Explorer has a spinning Star of David in the upper
right corner.
I hear Hava Nagila during Startup.
Microsoft Office now includes: a little byte of this, and a
little byte of that.
When running Scandisk, I am prompted with a "You want I
should fix this?" message.
When my PC is working too hard, I occasionally hear a loud
"Oy Gevalt!".
I saw a monitor cleaning solution from Manischewitz that
advertises that it gets rid of the "schmutz und drek" on
your monitor.
After 20 minutes of no activity, my PC goes Schloffen.
Computer viruses can now be cured with some chicken soup
with matzo balls.
Y2K problems have been eliminated, but the impending problem
promises to cause major Tsoris.
I didn't get a mouse... I got a yad, which makes sense
'cause apparently I'm not allowed to touch the Scroll bar.
It didn't come with a screen-saver, it came with an
electronic mehitza, which kicks in whenever I access a
feminist Web site.
When I open AOL, the announcement doesn't say "You've Got
Mail". Instead, it says "You don't WRITE, you don't CALL!".
I don't have an Option button; instead, it says "On The
Other Hand..."
I don't get E-mail.... I get Eh-mail. I get all these
letters which when I read them, I go "Eh, who cares?
When I press Delete or Trash I get a Dialogue Box which says
"Listen, you never know, you might need this someday. So
Cancel?".
When I click! on Clean Up Windows, it tells me it doesn't DO
windows.
It also came with a Shabbos Goy Software Program which
automatically turns the hard drive on after sundown, scans
the most recent files slowly and prints out during services.
For an additional $29.95 it's accompanied by a Chulent
CD-ROM... that slowly surfs the Internet during Shabbos,
amassing an assortment of Web sites which then sit in the
Browser Cache of my hard drive and stew until after sundown
Saturday.
And finally, my computer always takes 45 minutes to Shut
Down, unless I enter a special anti-separation anxiety
command, LOOK, I REALLY GOTTA GO. I PROMISE I'LL CALL.
Clearly something's going on here.
I thought I bought a Mac. I think they gave me a Max.

You know, I thought it was Alicia, too, but everyone was spelling it the
other way. BTW, some people DO spell it Alisha. So, pet peeve aside, I
guess they COULD be right. Though, I think the spelling has been seen in TVG
and on episode synopsis as Alicia.

I think I've seen somewhere that she is 6. And, you are right about the fact

liberties the writers are taking with continuity....most of which make
absolutely NO sense, I suppose we could just presume that Jeffrey decided to
raise her as a Jew because that's what he knows. Though I am Catholic, and I
KNOW you make a vow...any parent who had to give their child to someone else
to raise, would probably be happy just knowing they were getting a loving
home. Unless, of course, they are extremely devoted to their religion and
that was more important to them than anything else...Alan's character did not
seem like the latter profile.
So...I'd rather complain about the much more obvious problem of Alicia's age!

Good Afternoon:
Although I do not comment often on this list, I simply had to share my
feelings of last nights CH episode. I thought it was the best show in a very
long time and not simply due to Dr. Geiger being back. The episode was real
and showed perhaps the real side of Dr. Jeffrey Geiger, the side which is
caring and real. If one can delve into the reality of a persons real
personas and not just what is shown on the outside you might actually see
something quite surprising.

Mandy adopted Alicia and therefore Alicia is being raised Jewish like her
father...
When a child is adopted, it does not matter to whom the child is born unless
you are orthodox then a mikva (a religious bath that must be performed) must
be followed according to Jewish law. Whatever you as the adoptive parents
are the child usually follows.

Aside for all these other continuity problems, I'd like to know why
Jeffrey is still wearing a wedding ring? I'm sure this has been brought
up before, and I figure it might have something to do with the fact that
*Mandy* doesn't want to take off his wedding ring, but I'm wondering
what is *Jeffrey's* reason?

I'm confused. What did Jeffrey promise Alan at the Baptisim about raising
Alicia as a Catholic? Jeffrey wasn't even supposed to be the Godfather,
Aaron (who is also Jewish) was supposed to be. Alan asked Jeffrey at the
last minute when Aaron backed out.
I also don't believe you raise a child in another faith, no mater what it may
be, by reading books. This is just my opinion. It seems to me Jeffrey is
doing what he needs to be doing and that is being a Jewish Dad. I don't even
think Alan would object to that just as long as his daughter was loved and
being well taken care of and being taught what matters most in life.

Well, yeah, that's obviously what's happening. Which doesn't change the fact
that it's not supposed to be happening, because Jeffrey promised Alan that it
wouldn't happen, or he would never have been allowed to be Godfather in the

I don't recall seeing anybody mention this, but for a while now there's =
been a little filler bit on HBO about Elmo in Grouchland. Mandy is =
featured prominently, being interviewed along with Bug. Very cute. He =
claims to have been more "intimidated" working with Elmo than with anyone =
else (and Bug points out that MP has worked with Streisand). Mandy then =
says that working with Elmo, Big Bird, the Grouches, the Pesties etc. has =

Right. I never got the feeling that Alan was particularly religious. His =
"ethical will", what little we heard of it (and wouldn;t you like to see =
the whole thing sometime?) seems to have been based on a secular moral =

The only reason he was asked to have Alicia was that
he was her Godfather first. There are also legal
ramifications in an adoption if religion was an issue
and agreed upon, then the adoptive situation changes
radically from that agreement. Geiger wouldn't do
that, imho, it's just poor writing. Further, a social
worker would point that out to Geiger when he was
being approved as guardian and/or adoptive parent.

If I was raising my goddaughter, I would knock myself
out to do what her parents would have done, had they
lived. If they were Jewish, I'd make sure she learned
about it and went. At the very least it would be a
part of her life along with our faith. There are many
families that celebrate both faiths very
successfully.
It can be done. Just takes a little tolerance.

We do not know how Geiger is actually raising Alicia. However, he is
Jewish, and it is possible that the patient on the table and his family were
also. (Geiger would know, because he would have looked at the hospital
admission forms.) So, when he's trying to explain his dilemma to the
worried mom, he might well have resorted to an idiom familiar to both her
and him. Why use taking Alicia to CCD and First Communion classes as
examples, and then have to explain to the poor distracted woman what these
things are when she could care less anyway? Perhaps he was Keeping It
