Dear Folks,

I have been informed that the new TV guide for next week's programs, has a
2-page article on Mandy and a picture. The cover is a Christmas theme. Now
mind you, I haven't seen it, but an online friend told me about it; but she
couldn't tell me much, as her mom, a big fan, had taken it away to read! LOL

Enjoy,
Kim

Jen, did I mention any names in my e-mail? Must be a good old fashioned dose
of guilt, for U to write back! I truly don't like to think of myself, as a
one dimensional person, or try to hurt people. Everyone has an opinion,
everyone has had, and shared different experiences. I wish mine were as
pleasurable as yours. However, I truly am sorry for rocking the utopian
world. Like everything else in life, there is good and bad in many of the
things around us.

I spent 14 years in convent schools. Some nuns were more violent than
others. Those that weren't violent with their fists were viscous with their
tongues. It's easier to count those who were 'normal'. I make it 2 and one
of those is a relative.

There's a great website that stays pretty current on urban legends and myths:
http://snopes.simplenet.com/spoons/

And here's another one:
http://www.urbanlegends.com/

Whenever I get something like that in an e-mail, that's where I go first, to
check it out and see if it's true or an urban legend.

Of course, I occasionally forget to *read* where it says "Yeah, this is true"

Can't we remove this person from the mailing list? Obviously, they have

No. It was actually Calista singing (and she should *not* quit her day =
job) along with guest star James Naughton as her father. Their favorite =

of you *didn't* know). I was wishing there'd be more of Naughton singing. =

Apparently Mandy and ma will appear on a new show called Celebrity Dish on
the Food Network. (The series premieres on November 28, but the Patinkins
may or may not appear on that date.)

Thanks, Phantm, for posting this on your site. I thought it would be
about Mandy *leaving* CH, but no mention is made of that! Have things
changed (hopefully) or was this article written *before* Mandy decided

I guess Mandy hasn't technically "quit" again. CH knew about the broadway
show when he resigned to appear. And this interview was most likely
conducted a while back (before I talked to him about CH on Nov. 12 I am
sure). But if what MP said is true, he will not appear in a full dozen
episodes this season (unless the broadway show is a flop and disappears
fast). I think he's planning at this point to appear in eight total
(unless I counted wrong). Who knows--if CH is somehow renewed by CBS, MP
could appear next year. I'm just not holding my breath.

It looks like there is a strong likelihood that MP appears on the premiere
of this show, since the topic is celebrities and holiday dishes.

                                9:00 p.m. ET: TV Guide's Celebrity Dish:

magazine to the screen and goes into the
kitchen with
some of television's biggest stars. The
stars share how
they celebrate the holidays and some of

I just love it when the non-native speakers apologize for their usage, and
then they do better than us!

Bev, I agree totally with you. Besides, there is no excuse not to use the
basic spell checker that is built-in to most mail programs. Of course, it
won't catch the mistakes like using "form" when one meant "from"; this
typing error happens to me all the time. Now, I might not use caps when
chatting, but I do try to write properly in email. Like any other form of
communication, it is just not a one-way street. That's why I always re-read
every post before I send it. All that other people have to judge you by are
the words. Emoticons help, but they are no substitute for body language,
facial expressions, and tone of voice. The clearer the message, the better
chance you have of communicating with others, and that is what the Net is
all about, right? If we are all here just to speak into a vacuum, we might
as well go home.

>Well, except for KJ. We gave up on her a long time ago, and now just accept
>it as an eccentricity on her part

This must be some law of the 'Net; there is always one person like this on
a list: sometimes I ask the list owner to say something to them, sometimes
I say something myself, but most of the time I just ignore them. If they
had anything important to say, they would make sure to couch it in a format
that everyone else could easily understand; but hey, at least all small
letters is a heck of a lot easier to read than all caps. When I first
got on the Net ten years ago, there were a lot less people on it, and
perhaps they took more trouble to explain netiquette to newcomers without
flaming them. Of course, also then, newcomers were asked to observe for a
while before they started posting, whether it was on a mailing list or in a
newsgroup, so that they could learn the flow of the group dynamic, and fit
in better when they did start posting. *sigh*

No single group of people is. But I don't know why it seems to incite
such anxiety to prove me wrong, that there can exist an actual godly/good
nun, or a group of them.

Anyway, maybe it's a generational thing. I just want to be sure that
people's minds are open enough to accept the possibility of a Good Nun in
this day and age.

If someone has a physical handicap, that's one thing (in fact, those of my
friends who do have a physical handicap make an even greater effort to use
correct grammar, punctuation and spelling than those who don't have a
"physical handicap," as you so loosely put it). But to ignore such rules of
the language English is not only lazy, it's rude.

I think it might very well be a generational thing. I never went to
Catholic school so I have no first hand information but I do know that my
uncle who was left handed from birth was constantly smacked with a ruler on
his left hand until he learned to right with his right hand. He finally
learned but he always ate with his left hand till the day he died...I think
thats pretty cruel but it was also a good many years ago...

Not one misspelled word in your post, as well as not one single thing of
interest. Have you ever been accused of being ridged ? ... maybe YOU could
hang back and just observe for a bit and see how things are run here. ( I
don't really mean that, as it is a very obnoxious statement, not to mention
its insulting condescending nature.

Just an interesting note about adoption and religion. According to Orthodox
Judaism an adopted child, who has been through all of the religious rituals,
has to officially make his/her decision about religion when he/she becomes a
Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Ultimately it is up to the child.

I'd also like to hear Mandy sing The Impossible Dream.

I saw James Naughton in a one man concert last year. He was wonderful. He
was also wonderful as Billy Flynn in the broadway show Chicago.

By the way, did anyone happen to tape last night's Ally McBeal? If someone
could make me a copy I would really appreciate it. I will reimburse all
costs. Thank you.

Regards,
  Helaine

No. It was actually Calista singing (and she should *not* quit her day job)=20=
along with guest star James Naughton as her father. Their favorite song to s=
ing together was "Dulcinea" (from Man of La Mancha, in case some of you *did=
n't* know). I was wishing there'd be more of Naughton singing. Right, Rene?=20=

There is an ad in the new TV Guide for this show and it does say Mandy
will be on the premiere show Sunday! :-)

Yeah, so why beat me up for commenting on the Good in nuns? I'm sorry,
not "me." The other, nameless person you've been beating up on for not
having had any nuns beating up on me--I mean, them!

I don't think there was a "P," I think it was someone's

Jen <----trying to figure out how to create a nun winkie....wow, that

Jen, the best part about e-mail is that you can see who it's from, and delete

Kim, THANK YOU for posting this! I haven't had time to read my TV Guide in
weeks! As soon as I read your post, I went running for it and found it
sitting on the coffee table where I'd thrown it. Sure enough, there is the
article. Which I see by now phantm has posted on her site. But I could
easily have missed it (and yes, it is the one with Rosie on the cover). So
again, my thanks for the alert!\
