This is the last response I am giving to this as it is getting really
sickening and being blown way out of context. Why do you feel the need
to keep rehashing the same thing over and over? Are your minds so small
that they can only grasp and digest one subject at a time? I have seen
this pattern before, so I know it is not the subject matter. Apparently
in this group there is NO tolerance for different viewpoints, despite
what I have been told in private emails. I cannot blame them for not
wanting the wrath of the group upon them- not that I'll lose any sleep
over it! But Im sure Mandy either didnt mind or didnt give it a second
thought- so I really dont understand why you people dont do the same. I
cannot understand these personal attacks, either. If you disapprove of
what I did, I really dont care- We are ALL entitled to our opinions- but
so very few of you really know me that I cant see how you can make
judgements on me or place labels. Do you turn against everyone in your
life when they do something you disagree with or disapprove of their
actions? If that is the case, I feel sorry for you.
BTW Michelle- I did thank you that night- perhaps you didnt hear me..
you were scooping up your son to leave- I didnt realize you had paid for
anything before then. And if I were that troubled, I wouldve done a lot
more than I did! Laurie

How about we send him a copy of your Springfield message, along with some
examples of "backstabbing and bitchiness"? And we can cc Kathryn while
were at it. ;)

Perhaps we could all use some self-reflection, but based on the
overwhelming amount of negative feedback you are getting on this list I'd
say perhaps you might want to rethink your smugness about this issue. But
then I guess you don't care what we think. And that's OK.

And to make this semi semi semi semi on topic, I saw a couple of Mandy's
costars tonight perform selections from Midsummer's Night Dream with the LA
Philharmonic at a gala season opening. Thomas Gibson (Lysander) and Peter
MacNicol (Puck) were both terrific. Brent Spiner from Star Trek The Next
Generation almost stole the show though (as Nick Bottom/Pyramus). (Also
great were David Ogden Stiers, Alfre Woodard and the "slightly pregnant"
Rosalind Chao. Rosie Perez doing Shakespeare ..... well, that was , er,
interesting.)

i think people use this pattern for a reason. i think grabbing someones
thing in public is just as much like rape as anything even if he liked
it. if someone grabbed me there i don't care how cute i would have his
ass arrested on the spot. even if it was mandy!!

well hony i dont feel sorry 4 u . i just think u r a raunchy lonley slut
. but that is just based on what i no of u which is what u have said on
the list & waht u seem 2 think is aceptable in life. may be u r a nice
preson but u r a gross skanky ho when it comes to grabbing someones
privates & totally bragging it up. some guy braged about killing his
daughter on a mailng list and guess what he is in prison 4 life may b
even exacuted. even if he (mandy) loved it or asked u 4 it, its not
rite!!!!!! if so he is a skanky pig 2 & u 2 r made 4 each other. good
luck tell his wife, she deserves 2 no. if my boyfriend let some nasty
middle age lady stranger cop a feel i would castrate him on the spot. or
at least brake up with him & not even give him his ring back!!!! i just
asked him & he said if i did that he wuld kill the guy if he rubbed my
privats like that. i think he is joking but he has a temper & things
happen. i bet beating up would happen! n e way if i was mandys wife i
would devorce him and take him 4 all he is worth if he was pedaling his
flesh like that in concerts all the time.

well now i cant even stand to watch princess bride n e more just thinking
about this. yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our minds aren't small and we didn't start this discussion. Apparently most
of us know where to draw the line between reality and fantasy, as well as
politness and crude behavior, You, however don't. I think it is appallinh
how you've managed to convince yourself that Mandy Patinkin didn't care. He
is a gentleman with a performance going on and you tried to become the focal
point of attention by placing your hands where they should not have been.
Keep telling yourself that he didn't mind and you actually may convince
yourself that you actions were completely appropriate. Many perfomers of
lesser stature might have had security
drag you off stage and throw you outside.

You tried to compare this to Dot's mistakes, but you have proven yourself in
a league all by yourself. And as evidenced by the list's responses to Dot's
errors, this is not the first time people have responded negatively towards
someone who has done something so crude. Most people who are so totally self
absorbed in their fantasy world, they fail to recognize right from wrong.
This is clearly the slump you have fallen into now.

BTW Laurie et al..it's not for the lack of a thank you that disturbed me, but
the culmination of all the backstabbing gossip that followed the concert..It
kind of all adds up to push one's tolerance level to zero.

Michelle

For the record, I've been to a number of concerts in which he performed
this, and in none of them has he solicited people to come up and touch him.
At the ones I've seen, he's "manufactured" a standing O, inciting the
audience to stomp and clap, and to *approach* the stage - i.e. stand up
front in the aisles, not storm the actual stage. This come-up-and-touch-me
thing is a new one on me!

DR <-- wouldn't have done it back then either

I agree completely with you, and with KJ, and with Tanja and others who
have said Laurie crossed the line. I came home from visiting my son and
his fiance at college to more messages than I've gotten at one time in
years. I began reading my messages with the Springfield one (having
figured out that that was the one that started all the action). I was
shocked and appalled that anyone would sink to the level of what Laurie
did. In my wildest fantasies, in the farthest reaches and wildest depths of
my imagination, I would not even think of doing something like that.
Laurie asked how can anyone compare her actions to rape, I think the rape
comparison had to do with the Mandy asked for it and the Mandy liked it
defense anyway, rather than the act in question.
However you describe her actions, they sure weren't appropriate public
adult behavior in my opinion. Am I being judgemental, you bet your boots I
am, and personally I think we have more right to be judgemental than Laurie
had to touch Mandy's private parts.

Rene (tries to be tolerant of people and their behavior, but some things
don't deserve my tolerance)

Oh please please please please please. This argument is so tired. We are a
huge bundle of different opinions which have been suitably discussed and
rediscussed. What lowers the tolerance level is the perception that even in
the face of much censure you seem to totally NOT GET that your casual grope
was not only not acceptable behavior toward ANYONE in public, but that it
was deeply disrespectful to a person we ALL (evidenced by our presence on
this list) love and admire. The "admire" part of it is what rules here.
Sure, he's sexy as hell, and a babe, and all that, but that's not why we
*admire* him. We also know he's a better than average human being, a
devoted family man, someone who cares about the world and tries to make it
better however he can. To have copped a feel the way you did reduces him to
the status of sex object, which diminishes him and you as well, since
obviously you don't think of him as just a bod.

I am proud to have been a member of the very first group of "internet babes"
(several of whom are on this list) to have met with Mandy after one of his
first post-CH concerts. That evening he made a bunch of lifelong fans by
displaying all the endearing qualities that we all now know so well. In turn
I feel strongly that *we*, by behaving in a rational, classy and
non-invasive way, set the precedent for his future encounters with fans,
particularly internet fans, so when someone he knows to be on this list
crosses the line I feel a little soiled by association.

True, his invitation may have been provocative, but think of this: He sees
a bunch of people down front whom he recognizes as familiar or semi-familiar
fans. There's a certain element of trust involved here. He "knows" he's
safe with these people. He knows they're too classy to resort to
out-of-line behavior....well, so much for that now!

>Mandy either didnt mind or didnt give it a second thought

Don't you see there's a vast difference between "he liked it" and "he didn't
mind"? Whether or not he gave it a second thought - hell, he probably didn't!

>We are ALL entitled to our opinions-

Yes, we are, but we are not ENTITLED to act on them if it's harmful to
another person, whether it be Mandy or the collective reputation of all his
fans.

I think there have been enough attacks on Laurie now she may be an over
zealous fan as you say but she had no disrespect intended. She was a women
caught up in the moment she knows it was crazy and she can't believe she
did it either. Even in the craziness she thought she could share this with
the list of friends she knew you would all give her hell. But I believed
you she didn't know a trial and judgement would follow. I know you all have
the right to your opinion they are like assholes every body has one but
people who sit around and pass judgments on others actions really upsets
me. Most of you don't know Laurie and none of you were there. Fine if you
want to state your opinion but leave it there and end it we are adults and
you have beat this dead horse enough. It's over let it rest I am sorry it
upset you all so much but it is over let it go.

Actually, he started doing this number back when he was still doing the show
at the Public Theatre and it included wild audience response. The come on
stage thing apparently was part of a particular audience reaction, and he
liked it so he incorporated it in to the act. He has done the "come on stage,
bring me gifts, I know you mortgaged your homes to come here" bit (obviously
a joke) all over the country when he did this number before.

Guess you just missed it in the shows you saw---not that you missed that
much!!

I seen this in the Mpls paper- nothing new, really but its nice to see
any write-ups- here goes-
'Hope Changes'
Some of the faces are new, others have stayed, and one is back after a
long abscence. Extensive surgery has been performed on 'Chicago Hope'
but whether it survives remains to be seen. Big changes were mandated by
CBS if the medical drama was to have a sixth year, and creator/producer
David E. Kelley agreed to make them. That saw most cast regulars exit in
last season's final episode, since their characters were fired in one
fell swoop by returnee Dr. Jeffrey Geiger (Mandy Patinkin). Goodbye
Christine Lahti and Eric Stolz. Hello Barbara Hershey. So Long, Vondie
Curtis-Hall and Stacy Edwards. Welcome Lauren Holly. Farewell Jayne
Brook and Peter Berg. Come on in, Carla Gugino. The 3 actresses who have
just joined the show play doctors of differing specialties. Hershey's
Francesca Alberghetti is a thoracic surgeon, Holly's Jeremy Hanlom is a
plastic surgeon, and Gugino's Gina Simon is an expert in neurosurgery
and pediatrics. 'Chicago Hope' was in trouble, said Kelley, who wrote
the last two scripts that bridged last season and this one. 'we met with
CBS and pretty much agreed that in order for it to come back, it really
would have to be reborn'. Kelley concedes that trying to infuse a show
with new life in its sixth season is an uphill battle, especially with
'Chicago Hope' now pitted against NBC's high-rated Thursday lineup.
'We're not kidding ourselves that its anything but tougher than tough',
he said. 'But I think the medical arena remains a viable and exciting
one for a storyteller'. Laurie

Does anyone know what this upcoming episode of CH is about? My VCR cut
off before the previews were to be shown, if indeed they were. The local
TV Guide has no description either. Thanks, Laurie

There was a cover story ( the one Laurie quoted) in
the TV Booklet of our local newspaper, with a picture
of Geiger and Shutt on the cover. The last paragraph
said he was signed *for most* but *not all* of the
episodes. Seven out of thirteen doesn't constitute
most in my mind, so does anyone have better info?
(hopefully from the source)

And would you say that if someone enjoyed raping another person that we should let them do that too without speaking out against it? I know what Laurie did is not tantamount to rape--but it is not that far from it either!!! She bragged about stroking the man's penis through his pants. Laurie may not be a horrible person, but she claims to have done something which most of us think is a horrible act. She even claims to have given him an erection!!!
