I read somewhere (maybe on the CBS CH site?) that Wagner's character was not
carried over to this season because of the schedule change to Thursday
nights...that CH had been geared up to appeal to a younger audience but with
the move to the new night that was no longer the focus, so Barbara Hershey
was brought in in her place.
I tried last night to unsubscribe from this list but it failed...and I'm so
glad. I've thoroughly enjoyed the comments today. But I had no idea who the
Anthony or Andrew guy was you all were talking about and thought I had
landed in the wrong news group!

DEK stated at a press conference that they Natasha Gregson Wagner was
originally intended to appeal to a younger demographic. Instead, she was
dropped and Barbra Hershey added to appeal to the older demographic that
tends to watch CBS (and would tune in to CH after Diagnosis Murder no
doubt).

There have been comments about "saving CH". Frankly, I am not sure DEK
ever intended to save CH so it can continue for a few more years. I think
his intention was to get another year out of it and hopefully go out on a
better note than what we saw last year. (He was highly criticized for what
happened to Picket Fences and the way it was canceled, and perhaps didn't
want to see a repeat of that with Hope.)
Many of DEK's moves of late seem to be primarily money-motivated (the
half-hour "Ally"; the creation of "Snoops" to satisfy terms of his
multimillion dollar contract with ABC, though it is not up to DEK's normal
standard; a couple of movies which he has not received particularly good
reviews for). I think DEK is far too busy writing good episodes for Ally
McBeal and The Practice to worry too much about CH or Snoops or much of
anything else.

Wagner's character was originally supposed to carry over to the new season
to appeal to the Gen X viewers and as a potential love interest for Geiger
(talk about robbing the cradle!). However, once the show was slotted for
Thursday at 9 CBS and DEK felt they had to go with "counterprogramming" and
aim for a more mature audience. (I think I read this on the CBS website,
but can't say for sure.) Hence Wagner's departure and Hershey's entrance. I
happen to think that Hershey will make a decent romantic pairing for MP.
She is a terrific actress and when they give her some reason to stretch her
acting wings I think she will fly just fine. I definitely do not think that
she is too old for Geiger. I do agree that the makeover they have given her
stinks. Check out how beautiful she is in "A Soldier's Daughter Never
Cries" with Kris Kristofferson and Leelee Sobieski. Mary

Hi all,
A bunch of us went to the York Concert last night which was wonderful--of
course!! Lots of Kidults songs and he did the Coffee in a Cardboard Cup
audience participation number! Anyway, we got the following news tidbits
from Mandy himself and some of his "people"
---Kidults was not recorded in June as he said it would be (there was some
problem gettting everyone together) and will be recorded on January 10-12th.
Who knows when it will be released--probably not until March or April. (we
put in a plea for a nice picture on the album cover--but didnt plead with
him, so it wont do any good).
---The Schenectady Proctors Concert will not occur on November 7th---even
though Proctors still says it is happening then. According to Otts, the sound
engineer--who has to be at the shows-- none of the cancelled concerts have
been rescheduled as Mandy will not agree to book any dates until he finds out
if CH is being produced for the full season this year and whether "they" want
Mandy to do CH. Otts is usually on top of things in terms of scheduling, so
I tend to believe him.
--Mandy is doing a benefit concert in Boston on November 1st.
--When asked if he was doing the Wild Party, Mandy said a very definitive
'yes!" He said the contracts were being drawn up this week. He also said
Vanessa Williams was out of the show and he wasnt allowed to say who would
replace her. He said he was told that rehearsals would start in January,
previews in February and open in March. When told that the Public theatre has
advertised that previews open on April 6th, he look surprised and then just
shrugged. Since Mandy never knows his own schedule, I think the Public is
right on this one.
--He did not do the charity collection at the end of the show.
Anyway, it was a great shows, great seeing everyone, more details to follow
from everyone......

--I believe this is the last year for Chicago Hope and it is intended to be
the last year. Dramas need a full five year run for decent syndication runs
(although CH's appeal in this is complicated since Lifetime is re-running it
already). I think DEK didnt want this show to be cancelled in obscurity but
rather to have it go out in a blaze of glory and CBS wants DEK to work for
them again, so they made a deal.
Why else bring back Mandy, who asking price has gone way up, for a show to be
slotted against Frasier? This is not an audience building time slot. It is a
low expectation time slot (Les Moonves said he only expected a 10--15%
increase in ratings anyway) and one which will let DEK spin the tale of his
non-lawyer show and play out what must be one of his favorite
characters--Jeffrey Geiger--without too much ratings angst.

Thanks for all the details....good sleuthing work. Once again, I can't

Someone should've leaned against the "stop" button. Trapped with Mandy in

does he look heavy on TV and the movies. Vanessa Williams and Mandy looked

he started at 8:10 and the concert was over at 10 PM ..no internission. He
did not collect for donations. He met some high level donors backstage after
the show. But at the stagedoor, he met with the peons and signed autographs
and posed for pix. His driver pulled the limo right to the door and some
thought he would go right into the car, but, true to his being, he stayed
with his fans until he saw each and every one!:)))))) In the middle of
talking with us, his cell phone rang. it was Kathryn. he told her he couldn't
talk to her and would call her later . Then he told us to "say hello to
Kathryn" So we did ..quite loudly. It was cute...
The best part of the concert for me was Coffee in a Cardboard Cup. He invited
everyone to come up on stage and "touch him wherever we want" Oooo what a
thought! I was smack dab in the middle of the row near the back of the
theater. However, I was ready to run up on stage. (So did Mary Ann) The 6
people between me and the aisle did not care to go up on stage with Mandy
(why I do not know!) So I had to get arounfd these 6 (most of whom were not
getting out of my way!) then there were the people just standing in the aisle
that I elbowed on my way up to the stage;)
Finally, I was onstage (after crawling up the steps with no railings) along
with about 50 other rabid Mandyfans (two men and the rest women). I remember
touching his arm, but I don't remember groping his chest, altho 6 people told
me I did (including my hubby!) and one said I was "milking his chest". I,
however have no recollection of this, just of being close to Mandy! I do
remember getting kissed by him (which was my major objective to being on
stage in that mob). It was soooo fun!!!!!
He was in super voice and was so pumped up by the great and responsive
audience and doing a new season of live concerts!!! It was wonderful:)))))))
To all you going to his concerts this year: You are in for a real treat!!!!
And to those who aren't: why not????It is a super experience well worth
whatever effort it takes!!!

Omigod Ina, that is such a funny story! Good for you for bulldozing past
anyone who got in your way. Others might have been discouraged at the
obstacles they had to get past to get up there but you are a woman after my
own heart! Thanks for sharing that with us.
And now I'm afraid I will be expecting this to happen in Scottsdale next
month and if it doesn't, I will be disappointed! And I have a front row
seat so I can be the first one up there and fight everyone else off -- ha
ha! Except of course Wendy and Tanja who will also be sitting up front and
I wouldn't want to get between them and Mandy! :-)
What am I saying? I will be thrilled if he just doesn't cancel the concert!
And I can't believe that Kathryn called him while he was meeting with you
guys. I love that he said he couldn't talk with her right then. At least

because he could get brain cancer from it or some such thing! Looks like

I was the lst in the elevator and quitely walked right up to Mandy and
said how good it was to see him. I think I began to stroke his arm?? and
said something -- duhhhh Others behind me were making some kind of
noises and he said "Hi, how are you?" He smiled and looked gorgeous,
needed a shave and had his glasses on. I also think one of us mentioned
the "concert" that night.
Ina, you did a great job of listing most of the songs!
I was also smack, dab in the middle of the row and had to shove, but I
made it up on stage. Again, he looked "gorgeous" with all the sweat
running down his face. When he kissed me, on the cheek, I got some
sweat, too :-))). Then he suggested that we all go back to our seats
and he kept 1 little girl, maybe 10 years old, with him. He sang
Triplets to her and had difficulty singing the notes and would refer to
Paul a lot. He had a book with the words, so he appearred o.k. there,
but he was just having a good time and kissed the kid on the forehead.
Also gave her the flowers that someone had given to him.
Toward the end of the concert, Mandy thanked us for being patient with
him cuz he felt the concert was still in need of some fine tuning. He
mentioned that he was glad to be back in "concert" cuz he loves doing
them.
When the driver pulled the limo up and opened the back door, I just knew
Mandy would not get in and he didn't!!! He stayed with us and signed
and we all took pictures.
He was awesome!!!

Well, not the "stop" button exactly - but they did hold the elevator for me,
but only for a second. I had gone back to the room to get a corkscrew
(pre-show party time!), and was in the room when I suddenly heard "the
voice" coming from down the hall! I know the others were talking to him,
but I guess my Mandy radar kicked in because all I heard was him. I broke
all landspeed records getting back to the elevator so it wouldn't leave
without me! Afterall, how many times do you get to ride in an elevator with
Mandy?! Had to go back to the room later to see if I had actually shut the
door behind me in my haste. (I had) BTW, the man was in serious need of a
shave - but still very cute (in a scruffy sort of way) in his "workout
clothes." ;)

This one is from the POST weekend section, a mixed review. The relevant bits:
"In the middle of this spectacle swoops -- a la the Wicked Witch of the West
-- a helicopter with a vacuum attachment that sucks up everybody's favorite
things. And out of it pops the villanous, extravagantly eyebrowed Huxley,
played by Mandy Patinkin in a manner that mixes Dr. Seuss with vaudeville...
Both Patinkin and Williams have big numbers, his a musical comedy style ode
to stuff, "Make It Mine," hers a ballad to the beauty of trash, "I See A
Kingdom." Neither song has quite what it takes to keep tiny tushes in
seats. Patinkin's especially, despite his supple tenor, goes on too long."
And-is- the song on the album? Was this ever positively determined?

You are lucky that you have KathiJo and Wendy. I just
can't seem to muster the courage to walk into a
theatre for Elmo! :o) Especially since everytime I go
to the theatre, I end up in line with kids in my
class. I can just imagine their faces when they ask,
"Which movie are you seeing Mrs. Jorgensen?" and I
reply,"Elmo..." I'm just not brave enough to take the
razzing from a bunch of my middle school kids! LOL!
