I went to see Elmo yesterday afternoon (Saturday, at that!) I went alone,
and everyone in the theatre had a good time, adults and children. I didn't
feel at all self-conscious, maybe because I am used to going places alone,
including MP concerts. Anyway, we all participated in "rassberries", wishes,
etc. and had fun. I think MP did a fabulous job, as always, and his part was
really big compared to the other humans. Song was long and great. Hope it
is on the CD that way. Can't understand why he didn't get more mention. He
did a lot more than most of the muppets, except Bug, who was adorable. My
sons' and grandsons' blankie was well used.

I took the credits to mean that he more or less *appears* courtesy of =
Nonesuch, not that the song was produced there. Which of course doesn't =
mean that they didn't nix him being on the soundtrack.

"Elmo in Grouchland is more bad news for the Jim Henson franchise, taking in
only $3.3 million in 1,210 theaters."

Oh, well.

I guess it's up to us to go out and see this movie about a dozen more times.

The biggie for the weekend was "Double Jeopardy" with $17.2 million. At
least Clooney only came in #2 with $16.3 million for "Three Kings".

That's not a lot of screens 1200 (most movies release in many more theaters)
which is a big part of the reason it didn't take in much money. The other
reason is that the little tykes (to which this movie is meant to appeal)
usually spend the big bucks on buying or renting the video, rather than on
going to the movies (since Mom and Dad have to accompany them to the show and
that's the cost of 3 seats, rather than one). It will definitely do well in
the overall market.

I'd like to see Aaron hook up with a terrific lady, but why couldn't they
cast someone closer to his own age? I'm really getting damned tired of the
older man/younger woman scenario.

Margaret Colin, who played Antonovich, was then and is now the perfect age,
although that little matter of Antonovich's death is an obstacle, as is the
fact that Colin is on a new series "Now and Again" (which, BTW, is pretty
good).

Umm, the Drew Carey show had someone in a Krispy Kreme T-shirt? We don't
have Krispy Kreme in Cleveland . . .yet.

Rene (I suppose someone could have given one as a gift to someone)
