I believe he did win an Emmy or two in the writing category for LA Law
(before he became so "legendary"). However, to my knowledge he did not
ever won for Picket Fences as a writer, CH, The Practice, or Ally (though
he has as a producer for Best Drama and/or Best Comedy).

I don't understand how he can get nominated and win so many times in the
Best Drama or Best Comedy category but consistently get overlooked as Best
Writer. It is mystifying. At least he was nominated in the drama
category (against four scripts from Sopranos.) (Sopranos is a GREAT show
by the way. I won't cancel my HBO subscription as long as it is on the
air.)

OOPS just realized I got it backwards as to which writing category DEK was
nominated for this year. He was nominated for Ally's writing but not the
Practice. (How the season finale ep could not be nominated for the
writing...... egads!)

For those of you wondering what was going on with the Atlanta concert, I
believe this may be the answer:

Thousands Signing On as Delegates to United Jewish Communities' Historic
'GA' in Atlanta

NEW YORK, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Registration is quickly filling up for
this year's United Jewish Communities General Assembly, November 17-20, in
Atlanta. The GA is considered the "coming out party" for the new national
organization, formed of the recent merger of United Jewish Appeal, Council
of Jewish Federations, and United Israel Appeal.

President Clinton is expected to address the gathering. Other world
leaders speaking at the GA will include Israel Prime Minister Ehud Barak,
and former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz. Among other participants
are New York Times columnist and author Thomas Friedman, and former
professor at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Dr. Alice Shavli, head of the
Scheckner Institute for Jewish Studies.

GA delegates will also:

-- Celebrate Shabbat with distinguished rabbis and scholars from around

the world;

-- Be entertained by Mandy Patinkin in a special performance of his hit

show, "Mamaloshen;"

-- Enjoy a unique Jewish film festival and meet the filmmakers themselves;

-- Exchange ideas with today's hottest, most insightful Jewish authors;

-- Sample southern hospitality with visits to some of Atlanta's finest

It's almost criminal that he hasn't won a writing award for any one of those

It's kinda like when the Oscars nominate a film for Best Picture, but the
director doesn't get a nomination for Best Director. Makes no logical sense
whatsoever.

 This is absoLUTEly true! Riveting
television, one of the few shows for which Dave and I just completely stop
doing anything else and turn all our concentration towards the TV. I adore
Holland Taylor, but Nancy Marchand should've won for Supporting Actress in a
Drama Series -- she's simply unbelievable as Tony's mother.

Subject: MP: Elmo soundtrack
Date: Tue, 14 Sep 1999 20:27:31 -0400

I went to the record store today looking for the "Elmo in Grouchland"
soundtrack, and they had just gotten it in. Great! Well......not really.
As far as I could tell, there is no Mandy song on it. Nine tracks total.
There are songs by Vanessa Williams, Tatyiana Ali, assorted Grouchland
muppets, and even one by Steven Tyler (Aerosmith, right?), but none by the
thief with the bushy eyebrows. Seems odd he isn't there, but at least on
the outside of the CD, there's no Mandy song mentioned. Just caught an ad
on tv for both the soundtrack and the "Elmo in Grouchland" Sing and Play
video. Nice for the kiddies, but where's Huxley for the rest of us????
You'd almost think this was supposed to be a kid's movie or
something........ ;)

Well, it's not in "Grouchland Stinks,""Grouchland Surprises," "Happy Grouch
Day","Unwelcome to Grouchland," and not listed on the outside of the "Elmo
in Grouchland Sing and Play" VHS. There are pictures of Huxley and the
"Queen of Trash" in "Elmo in Grouchland Coloring Fun," but both pictures
are very WASPY and don't look like either Mandy or Vanessa Williams. (Nor
is he one of the 3 Grouchland characters Avon's coming out with.)

There are photos from the movie in "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland
Movie Storybook"!(That's a keeper...the rest go to my grandchildren!)

I love the picture of Mandy in his pajamas with his nightcap tip in his
mouth...and one with Elmo's blanket wrapped arpound his head. Why do I have
the feeling that playing this character was not difficult for Mandy....that
he's closely in touch with his "inner child" :> Carol

Well, I guess I'll find out for myself in November when it's supposed to be
shown on Channel 9 here, which is a regular TV network - not cable. Will I
then find out why Bev 'put on' the Scottish accent? :) [Love the way you
did it as HTML code, Bev]
