Subject: MP: (Off) Only nine!
Date: Tue, 21 Sep 1999 00:43:05 +1000

Hi all,

Well, I finally got to have a look at the Elmo CD today - and there are
only NINE tracks on it! It's $10 cheaper than 'regular' CDs but still a
rip-off. Of course, those 9 tracks don't include any different ones to the
US release.

Do you think it would do any good if we all complained to Sony about the
absence of Huxley's song? At least they might get an idea of how many more
copies they would have sold if they'd just added one more track of less
than 3-1/2 minutes. Maybe they've got an excuse as to why Vanessa William's
song is included (even on the Aust 9 track one) but not Mandy's much better
one. (But what excuse is good enough to explain this omission)?

On a lighter (and 99% off-topic) note - today I found a copy of Sean
McDermott's album 'My Broadway' in the same shop I had ordered it from a
couple of months ago. The shop I got a letter from to tell me it was
unavailable because it had been deleted. (It was only released a few months
before so I thought that couldn't be the case).

The 1% connection is that Sean took over from Stephen Bogardus as Whizzer
in Falsettos (I suppose, after Mandy left - or did MP sit in bed with Sean
too)?  :>

Well gang, no Mandy yet again - but plenty of his co-stars, friends and his
favourite singer! There's also Noah Wyle (family?! :>), George Clooney, Jay
Thomas and one of only a few Australians I like, Russell Crowe, also
scheduled.

(The co-stars I can see at a glance are: Michael J Fox and Nathan Lane
(from LWMikey - well, he *was* in it! :>), Kelsey Grammer (early SITPWG),
Thomas Gibson (CH) and Gina Gershon (Lulu)). Anyone see others? I can
certainly see quite a few it would be great to see Mandy in a film with!

BTW - who's Sean Hayes? (Like to know who my 'relatives' are, ha ha ha).
Wish I could see more than just the Letterman guests - this is a good bunch!

He is on a sitcom on NBC called Will & Grace (Will's overtly gay friend).

Thanks for that, both of you! Will & Grace is on TV here at 8pm on
Thursdays, right after Dharma & Greg (I think the programer thought that
was funny). Trouble is, I'm usually in the city at that time on a Thursday
as it's my 'pay day' and my son and I usually go to McD's or somewhere (and
sometimes to a movie) that night. I saw W&G for the first time last week -
and even then there were a few interruptions! The promos look really good,
though! I'll take more notice of Will's friend next time - from memory,
he's quite nice.  :)

Dinny continued:

I thought I heard him say 'Hayes' but didn't really catch it - and haven't
replayed my recording. (Do you think DHP looked extra skinny that night?)

>>>He was also the lead in a movie called "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss"

Definitely *never* heard of that movie! Maybe it will turn up here sometime
(maybe not).

Thanks again!

They're on here one right after the other, too, but on different networks.

Not really, he usually is pretty skinny. But of course one always looks =
extra hard at "at-risk" individuals (though as far aw that goes, I think =
DHP has been monogamous for several years).

Well, it was a very "small" movie. I almost saw it on vacation in New York =
last year. I've been keeping an occasiional eye out at Blockbuster though =
without a lot of hope. Although Sean's newfound popularity could at least =
prompt them to stock a copy or two.

LaChiusa's Wild Party Sets April 6 Broadway Opening
By Robert Viagas=20

Director-librettist George C. WolfeThe New York Shakespeare Festival=20
announced that Michael John LaChiusa's new musical, The Wild Party, will ope=
n=20
on Broadway April 6 at the Virginia Theatre.

That means LaChiusa, composer of Hello Again and one of the leading lights o=
f=20
the Pomo Musical movement, will have two musicals on Broadway this season.=20
His Marie Christine opens Dec. 2 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre.

Production spokesperson John Barlow said no date of first preview has been=20
set.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME?: Fans of LaChiusa's Hello Again will be listening=20
closely.

NYSF's Artistic Director George C. Wolfe, who will stage The Wild Party, had=20
been considering the idea of Broadway since late spring 1999, after a planne=
d=20
May production of the musical was postponed at NYSF's Off-Broadway base of=20
operations, the Joseph Papp Public Theatre in Greenwich Village.

Theatrical Index reported that NYSF is seeking Vanessa Williams, Mandy=20
Patinkin and Eartha Kitt for the leads, but those names were not confirmed.=20
Among performers whose names have been floated in connection with the=20
project: Leah Hocking and pop star Madonna.=20

Wild Party was announced for the Virginia Theatre, currently tenanted by the=20
long-running revue Smokey Joe's Cafe, which has not posted a closing notice=20
or announced that it's planning to move. Spokesperson Helene Davis said Sept=
.=20
17 that Smokey Joe is scheduled to continue an open-ended engagement at the=20
Virginia.

Public Theatre spokesperson Carol Fineman told BroadwayNow in June that Wolf=
e=20
had decided not to limit himself to one of the Public Theatre's stages, whic=
h=20
he felt could be too small for the large-scale musical.=20

The Wild Party is based on a poem by Joseph Moncure March about a seductive=20
blond and the wild party that transforms her life. The musical also draws on=20
the implications of the 1920s Fatty Arbuckle scandal.

Through a strange coincidence of timing, another musical based on the same=20
poem -- and also titled The Wild Party -- will open in New York at=20
approximately the same time. Manhattan Theatre Club has set Jan. 25 as first=20
preview and Feb. 22 for the opening of it's own The Wild Party, with a score=20
by Andrew Lippa, who wrote the new songs added to the recent Broadway reviva=
l=20
of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. These included Kristin Chenoweth's=20
show-stopping "My New Philosophy." The Lippa Party had a workshop reading Ma=
y=20
20, and, depending on when in March LaChiusa's Wild Party previews, will=20
likely be playing at the same time.

As reported previously by BroadwayNow, Wolfe co-wrote The Wild Party with=20
composer-lyricist LaChiusa, and is scheduled to direct. Wolfe was involved a=
s=20
writer/director on two previous major musicals: Jelly's Last Jam and=20
Noise/Funk.

Joey McKneeley (Smokey Joe's Cafe, The Life) was announced as choreographer.

It would be Wolfe's first return to Broadway since the failure of his On the=20
Town revival in December 1998. The Public Theatre's finances and prestige=20
traditionally have been enhanced with long-running Broadway transfers=20
including Hair, A Chorus Line, Two Gentlemen of Verona and Bring in 'da=20
Noise, Bring in 'da Funk..

LaChiusa established his reputation at the Public Theatre, which produced hi=
s=20
imaginative time-traveling operetta, The First Lady Suite. He had a cult hit=20
with Hello Again at Lincoln Center in 1994, but his subsequent The Petrified=20
Prince flopped at the Public.=20

In addition to The Wild Party, LaChiusa, recently received a Lyric=20
Opera/Goodman commission, and is working on two other new musicals: Highest=20
Yellow for Virginia's Signature Theatre, and The Mark of Zorro.
